Analysis of Beautiful Losers

Analysis of Beautiful Losers

Pick an artist from the movie to use as a character to analyze. In this post take a close look at her/his perception of art production, and write about it. Your post should be at least three paragraphs in length. It should deal with only one artist’s perspective, as well as your own.

Questions to ask yourself while choosing an artists and a moment that stands out in the movie to write about:
  • How does her/his and your culture, provoke the creation of art?
  • Does the artist/you feel like an insider or an outsider within a culture? Does this feeling lead to the creation of art.
  • How does collaboration, mimicking, and/or inspiration by other artists lead to the creation of art? Is this a good/bad thing, why.
  • How does the phenomenon of success change or strengthens ones perception of art creation? Does the artist create for her/himself alone?

The beautiful loser I choose is Ed Templeton. I’ve been a fan of Ed Templeton since I was 12, he influenced me first as a Skateboarder then in later years as an artist. When I first saw Ed Templeton’s art it made me want to paint, much in the same way when I first saw a Drum kit it made me want to play. I believe at his point in Ed’s life he is no longer an outsider he runs Toy Machine Skate co., he is a father and a respected artist. I know like many pro skateboarders in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s were looked down upon and viewed as misfits. I fact I gravitated towards being a skateboard because of Ed Templeton’s styling. Ed Templetons style of art sometimes deals with scene’s of depression or sadness but he puts a spin on it that evokes happiness.

I don’t believe that collaborating or copying is a bad thing at all. Ill be honest half of my artistic process is to look at new or favorite artist of mine for inspiration. I remember their being a statement used in this movie about a human cant replicate a perfect copy so no matter what, interpretation is inevitable across the board. I know that artists have interesting views on each others work as well as their own, I know that Ed is very well respected amoungst his artist community.

I think that success only changes those who are listening to outside voices rather than their own creative force. I think that success in art usually turns sour because of drugs and other things of that nature other wise, the artist is eating and spending money on projects previously postponed due to money differences. I think

  2. BEAUTIFUL LOSERS

The beautiful loser that touch me is Margaret Kilgallen. I had never heard of this artist. When I saw this film her work caught my eye. She made me inspiration, like I'm going to draw in my sketchbook all day long. By drawing on freight trains she hoped to inspire another female street artist. Her inspiration came from everyday workers. “I like things that are handmade and I like to see people's hand in the world, anywhere in the world; it doesn't matter to me where it is.”

Chris Johnson came to the studio where Margaret was painting. He founded her style interesting. Saying that he will go to his studio and mimic her work. In art class in high school I had friend that loved my style of drawing; so I helped her. I don't believe that copying is always bad. Me I found inspiration in artistic process from other artists in school and out. As long that helped me found my style. In the movie Margaret loved when young artists thanked her, that made her keep going.

Her respect for and engagment with craftsmanship and the stories of everyday peoples' lives. I like that about her because I used personal experience in my artwork. Enjoyed painting murals and signs for the community with influences of the southwest and warm colors. She a heroin to the female street artists.

  3. Cheryl Dunn is a photographer and filmmaker who I have been a fan of for a very long time now. Dunn was an artist in Beautiful Losers and preached in the movie about how everyone should stop criticizing other artist work because that’s why people put down the paintbrush or the camera because they are afraid others will judge their work. Instead of criticizing others work you should encourage them to go out and make more art. I feel like Cheryl is in her own world and photographs whatever she really see’s interesting to her eye.
I think collaboration with other artist is a good thing if your art is completely different from each other because if your art is the same how will you collaborate? I think other artist work off each other and inspire each other to create new things every day. That’s how I work when I look through a fashion magazine it inspires me to get up and grab my camera and try to push myself to be better. Other artist inspiring other artist is a great thing it makes all artists tries to push them to do better and to be better.
I don’t think Cheryl Dunn’s popularity with her photography has affected her personally at all; her popularity has probably just gotten her more clients. I feel like Cheryl is the same person she’s always been. Even though her work has been in some insane magazines like Vogue. I feel as is she’ll always be the same person she’s always been maybe just with more expensive cameras at the most and bigger clients.

  4. The Beautiful Losers

One the character I picked was most likely understand when while I was watching a movie from “The Beautiful Losers”. Her name is Cheryl Dunn to known as the photographer. Her culture have change her much different the way to be someone to have major in effect from her in art culture.
This artist have me feel something inside or outside in the culture because she have went through some much difficult things she need to overcome those weakness. I feel that the entire thing that change her. She has kept work through her talents and work with other artist. Those feeling have lead to creation of art that Cheryl Dunn kept continue work hard with other artist. That has give much feeling have change her. She loves to work other people, for me art has leaded to me much different to successful to work hard.
In this movie in the “The Beautiful Losers” has inspired other artists that bring each other together. When Cheryl Dunn became pregnant and has cancers too. It was difficult for her go through hard decision to make. But she has brought people all together in one place. She has died having a baby in the way. Those characters bring everybody together to continue to work arts.

The time Cheryl Dunn sickness became bad so far in the winter year. The time when Cheryl Dunn found out she have cancer. Also, she was having a baby. She had to make decision to get rid off the baby (killed the baby) or keep the baby, but she wouldn’t able to live with her baby. Everybody was feeling touch how much she had missed to leave from this world in the world creation arts. One day, everyday decided to make there own art shower for everybody to see a lot of arts talents.
